An exciting new era for potato consumers is emerging with HZPC Luxury Style
Canada
June 1, 2004

'HZPC Americas Corp has established a North American potato breeding program specifically focused on the identification of potato varieties that we term HZPC Luxury Style table potatoes,' says HZPC Americas Corp President, Don Northcott. "More than just gourmet or specialty varieties, these new varieties focus on the broad potato market, but bring new elements of bright and shiny skin appearances, long storage possibilities, multi-faceted cooking opportunities and of critical importance: taste," according to Mr. Northcott.

Potato producers will be glad to know the HZPC emphasis on high yield and disease resistance are being retained and matched with characteristics that lend themselves to strong consumer selection preferences. HZPC Americas Corporation, the North American seed potato partner of HZPC Holland BV, has specific potato varieties suited to most production regions of North, Central and South America.

"HZPC trials with our Luxury Style new lines are currently under way throughout North America with research facilities located in both traditional and non-traditional supply regions," says Don Northcott. Limited channels of commercial production will present HZPC license holders a window to gauge consumer responses in the 2004-2005 season.

HZPC Americas Corp is working with Florida growers and agriculturists to develop a gourmet potato that's known for its taste, and has much less carbs than most other varieties. The new low-carb potato will be in stores early next year.
