Queensland, Australia
February 9, 2004
Grain growers in parts of southern
Queensland are being offered support for research trials they
may wish to set up on their farms.
Queensland's Department of
Primary Industries extension agronomist Nick Christodoulou
said the idea was to help graingrowers looking for on-farm
answers to production issues with specialist help.
The DPI, Grains Research and Development Corporation and
Department of Natural Resources and Mines were supporting the
on-farm research project.
Mr Christodoulou said graingrowers in areas covered by the
Western and Eastern Farming Systems Projects could participate.
These were the Balonne-Maranoa, Western Downs and Darling Downs
regions.
He said the support was available to farmers or farmer groups
with a specific issue to be investigated, who were prepared to
communicate results to others and who could complete their
project and report on it within two years.
The DPI would provide specialist support in developing ideas,
and monitoring, analysing and interpreting research outcomes.
Graingrowers wanting more information could contact himself or
Amanda Hicks at the St George DPI office (4620 8125), or Tony
Koch at the Dalby DPI office (4669 0807).
Applications close on February 27.
