Agricore
United's Board of
Directors elected its new executive committee at its quarterly
board meeting held in Winnipeg today. Jim Wilson of Darlingford,
MB was elected Chairman, replacing Neil Silver who had served on
an interim basis since February when Ted Allen stepped down as
President and Chairman. Jon Grant was elected to serve as First
Vice-Chairman.
Mr. Wilson, who is currently the Chairman of the Canada Grains
Council, was elected to the board of
Manitoba Pool Elevators in 1995 and served as First
Vice-President of Agricore Cooperative Ltd. from
1999 to 2001. He has been a director of Agricore United since
the company was formed in November
2001. Since 1974, Mr. Wilson and his wife Norleen have farmed at
Darlingford growing cereals,
oilseeds and pulse crops and have operated a seed processing
plant since 1993. He also obtained his
designation as a Chartered Accountant in 1974, working in public
practice until 1993.
Mr. Grant, formerly the Chairman of the Laurentian Bank of
Canada, is the Chairman of CCL Industries Inc. and is Vice Chair
of the Nature Conservancy of Canada. He is the retired Chairman
of Quaker Oats Company of Canada Limited, and is also serving or
has served as a director of several other Canadian companies,
including United Grain Growers from 1993 to 1997.
Three other directors were elected to the executive committee
today. Maurice Lemay of Tangent, AB is Alberta Vice Chair, Terry
Youzwa of Nipawin, SK is Saskatchewan Vice Chair and Wayne Drul
of Oakburn, MB is Manitoba Vice Chair.
