Danson Seed Company has
established a plastic tunnel trial ground in Fillmore, CA to
provide test conditions similar to those found in markets
surrounding the Mediterranean. The new factilities will be used
to evaluate new indeterminate tomato, sweet pepper, hot pepper,
squash, and melon varieties being developed in our breeding
programs.
Danson Seed has been expanding
all of its breeding programs focused on the development of new
greenhouse varieties in response to the continuing growth of
protected culture production all around the world.
Plastic tunnels are among the least expensive systems to provide
protected culture. California is seeing a very rapid increase in
the use of plastic tunnels primarily for berry crops. The trial
grounds
will offer local growers the opportunity to see how well crops
other than berries respond to unheated plastic tunnel
production.
