Wisconsin potato technology ammunition for Polish fighter jet deal

January 16, 2003

Quantum Tubers Corporation, Delavan, Wisconsin is included in an investment package for Poland with Lockheed Martin Corporation. Two weeks ago, the Polish government selected Lockheed’s F-16 Fighting Falcon, fulfilling a NATO requirement to upgrade its air force. Lockheed’s multi-task fighter was the clear winner in a competition against the French Mirage and the Swedish Gripen. The package includes both aircraft and substantial offset agreements reportedly valued at more than US$9 billion.

Quantum Tubers participates in the fighter jet offering as one of the premier agricultural offset projects. Its patented technology is groundbreaking in its ability to provide immense quantities of disease-free seed potatoes in a fraction of the normal production time. Offset projects are investments into Poland that improve the local economies and "offset" the cost of the aircraft.

Quantum Tubers Corporation recently announced plans to build the world’s largest biomanufacturing facility in Wisconsin for production of zero-generation, pathogen-free seed potatoes, known as minitubers. Under license from the U.S. Company, Agreko Quantum Tubers, SA, of Domaszowice, Poland, will construct similar production capabilities.

The Quantum Tubers system eliminates at least 5 years from any current production method. As a result, the technology fundamentally changes the economics of potato production by providing greater quantities of healthy, early generation seed materials at a dramatically lower price. Genetic modification is not necessary for this patented production process.

Poland is the third largest producer of potatoes in the world. Quantum Tubers technology will provide the country with the world’s most advanced seed potato biomanufacturing capability.

The unique biotechnology process was developed through the coordinated efforts of Quantum Tubers Corporation, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Plant Pathology Department, and the NASA Space Research Center at the University of Wisconsin (WCSAR), the UW-Biotron, and the UW Hancock Research Center at Hancock, WI. It is the culmination of more than 10 years of dedicated research.

This investment in Poland is a part of the global expansion of additional production facilities that Quantum Tubers Corporation plans for deployment this year. The Quantum Tubers technology enables individual companies around the world to become leaders within their local markets, while benefiting from the power of an internationally recognized product.
