Mid-West Seed Services accepting samples for baseline studies
Brookings, South Dakota
April 11, 2003

Mid-West Seed Services, Inc. announces that it is once again accepting seed samples for baseline quality studies.

Companies are requested to remit 2-5 pound seed lot samples of sweet corn, sorghum, sunflower, peanut, rice or cotton for baseline quality studies. The objective of this work is to further define minimum (baseline) values for traditional and alternative vigor tests on various species. Tests conducted will depend on the type of seed, but may include warm germination, sand germination, tray cold germination, saturated cold germination, cool germination, accelerated aging, electrical conductivity and soak test.

In addition, field plots will be planted on two different dates in the Brookings, S.D. area for field emergence data. Each planting will contain four replicated 18’ row plots. Once lab tests and field counts are complete, contributing companies will receive their individual sample data and a summary of overall data set. This service is free for up to five samples per company. Company identities will remain confidential.

Please contact us if your organization is willing to supply seed or plant and count emergence on a group of seed lots. The deadline for receiving samples for this program is quickly approaching. Please call Amanda Patin or Tim Gutormson if you have questions or would like to participate. (1-877-692-7611).
