A wheat variety guide for the
coming winter crop season has been distributed to Queensland and
northern New South Wales wheat growers.
Douglas Lush, of the
Queensland Department of
Primary Industries Agency for Food and Fibre Sciences, said
6000 copies of the CropLink Variety Update had been posted to
the wheat growers and their advisers.
Mr Lush, who compiled the 12-page
booklet, said it contained detailed technical information to
help wheat growers choose the most appropriate varieties.
He said DPI Leslie Research
Centre officers and staff at Allied Mills in Toowoomba had
provided detailed information for the booklet on planting times,
varietal characteristics such as agronomic traits, disease and
rust resistances, domestic millers’ preferences, herbicide
sensitivity and comparative yields.
AWB Seeds,
PlantTech and the
Grains Research and Development Corporation supported the
project.
Mr Lush said additional copies of
the booklet could be obtained by telephoning the Department of
Primary Industries Call Centre
on 13 25 23.
