Glyphosate resistant ryegrass and brodal and atrazine resistant radish

September, 2002

Glyphosate resistant ryegrass and brodal and atrazine resistant radish are the new targets of a grower-led assault on herbicide resistance in Western Australia¹s northern agricultural region (NAR).

With support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Juliet McDonald supervises a
project which works with 275 growers to investigate the prevalence of herbicide resistance in the two million hectare NAR and explores farming systems solutions. Participating growers are now trialling farm scale integrated weed management plans to determine the best management strategies for the area.

"By developing effective systems approaches to weed management, we hope to bolster NAR yields by 100kg/ha," Ms McDonald said.
