Results of the 2002 Iowa Crop
Performance Test for hybrid corn are now available on the
Internet at the Iowa Crop Improvement Association (ICIA)
website:
http://www.agron.iastate.edu/icia/. These
reports include performance information on yield, moisture, root
lodging, stalk lodging, dropped ears, stand and percent of
protein, oil and starch.
During 2002, researchers evaluated 520 hybrids from 61 seed
companies and from Iowa State University. Each entry was tested
in one or more of seven districts throughout the state with
three testing locations in each district. The state's 2002
average corn yield in these tests was 179 bushels per acre.
District yield averages were:
District 1: 172 bushels per acre
District 2: 177 bushels per acre
District 3: 188 bushels per acre
District 4: 184 bushels per acre
District 5: 191 bushels per acre
District 6: 178 bushels per acre
District 7: 164 bushels per acre
Sixteen new tables have been
added to the 2002 test report because of the increasing number
of new hybrids being released every year. These data include
performance results at several locations during one year in
addition to the three locations included in each district
report. The data are averaged across districts to help predict
which hybrids may have the best relative performance potential
during next year's growing conditions.
DTN (Data Transmission Network) will be including a summarized
version of the Iowa Crop Performance Test for corn on its
computer system.
Iowa Crop Improvement Association (ICIA) conducts the Iowa Crop
Performance Tests in cooperation with the Iowa Agriculture and
Home Economics Experiment Station at ISU and ISU Extension. The
program offers unbiased, third party, on-farm information to
Iowa growers on commercial seed.
ICIA provides performance information on hybrids and varieties
for alfalfa, barley, corn, oat, soybean, triticale and wheat.
