Ed O’Brien, Tilden, Nebraska, won first place at the Mid
America Alfalfa Expo in Hastings with Golden Harvest brand GH750
alfalfa, produced by The J.C. Robinson Seed Co.
"We plant around 80 acres of Golden Harvest alfalfa each year
to support our beef cattle herd and square hay bale business,"
O’Brien said. "We ship our hay to dairies and horse ranches
across the country."
O’Brien’s sample of GH750 had the best total score of the 12
entries with crude protein of 26.6, which beat the average of
25.6, and relative feed value (RFV) of 327.6, which beat the
average of 295.2.
"Last year Ed submitted another one of our alfalfa varieties,
GH766, which placed third," Bob Sis, alfalfa product manager,
said. "We have very high quality alfalfa with consistent
multi-year yield performance which allows our customers to
maximize their profitability. Results such as Ed’s show that our
alfalfa delivers the consistency and quality that we promise."
GH750 has excellent quality traits with an overall disease
rating of 30 out of 30. It has fast regrowth after cutting and
excellent resistance to phytophthora and aphanomyces root rots.
GH750 is a great choice for poorly drained soils.
