Iowa State University names new department leader for Department of Plant Pathology

Charlotte Bronson has been named chair of the Department of Plant Pathology at Iowa State University.

Bronson, who has been a faculty member in the department since 1982, will begin a three-year term on April 1. She also is the interim director of the Center for Plant Responses to Environmental Stresses, which is part of the Plant Sciences Institute at ISU. Bronson succeeds Ed Braun, who served as chair for six years. Braun will return to research and teaching duties in the department.

Bronson teaches graduate-level courses in plant disease. She conducts research on the genetics and of fungi and how fungi cause plant disease. She also studies the application of biotechnology to the control of corn and soybean diseases.

The Department of Plant Pathology provides education, research and extension in the biology and management of plant diseases.
