Besides BASF,
the others with holdings in SunGene are:
- the Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Research (IPK),
- Professor Uwe Sonnewald, Head of the Department of Molecular Cell Biology at the
IPK, and
- Dr. Karin Herbers, Scientific Director of SunGene.
The company will be part of BASF Plant Science GmbH, in which BASF (holding 85
percent) and its Swedish seed partner, Swalof Weibull
(15 percent), will pool all their research operations in the field of plant biotechnology.
BASF Plant Science was formed in January 1999 as a joint venture between BASF and
the Swedish seed company Swalof Weibull. Besides their new facility in Research Triangle
Park, BASF Plant Science includes six other research subsidiaries in Germany, Sweden and
Canada. |
