On the 7th of October KeyGene celebrated its 20th anniversary, for its clients and customers, with a festive event in Castle Doorwerth in Doorwerth.
The theme of the event was “The future of the FFFFFF’s”: Food, Feed, Fiber, Fuel, Flower and Fun.

Since its start in April 2008, seven motivated plant breeding companies have joined the KeyGene InnovatorsClub. KeyGene encourages companies to join and aims for 20 participants in 2010. The KeyGene InnovatorsClub enabled the participating companies to implement new innovative molecular techniques by collaboration between the companies and by the support
of KeyGene and its experience.

A new mutagenesis technique

During the Genomics in Business 2009 conference in Amsterdam, KeyGene® announced its new technology: KeyBase™. KeyBase™ is an innovative method to achieve rapid and more precise plant breeding. The method enables the introduction of small desired alterations in the genetic material of plants, using a natural process. This KeyBase™ process can be compared with natural mutagenesis, with the difference that a single change is induced at one specific location on the DNA.
