What is Veg-IDTM?

DNA analysis, or genotyping, presents a powerful tool to assist seed quality managers in the identification of commercial vegetable seed varieties, reducing or eliminating the need for time-consuming grow-outs. Microsatellite-based genotype analyses using SSRs provide for the rapid, accurate and cost-effective identification of seed varieties by generating a permanent and positive identity for individual reference lines.

SSRs (Simple Sequence Repeat microsatellite DNA markers) are co-dominant, robust, and highly discriminating genetic markers that are present throughout these plant genomes.

Celera AgGen has assembled and optimized a set of highly
discriminating SSRs for use in tomato as well as several other vegetables.
For application in tomato, AgGen has tested and selected key SSRs to provide:

Unlinked coverage of the genomes,
Highly informative polymorphism data, and
Rapid, reliable and reproducible data collection.
