Greenhouse Director
Location: Lincoln, Nebraska, USA The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is looking for an individual responsible for all operational aspects of University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Innovation Campus greenhouses.
This position will supervise and train staff in all aspects of greenhouse management, coordinate staff assignments to meet the demands of UNL faculty at all greenhouse locations, and prioritize and coordinate all maintenance, service and supply ordering functions of all the greenhouse locations.
This person will ensure:
- 1) optimum (efficient, balanced, and prioritized) use of campus greenhouse spaces, equipment, resources, and personnel to meet diverse faculty needs;
- 2) greenhouse equipment performance and infrastructure operations;
- 3) proper safety practices are followed;
- 4) stewardship and fiscal responsibility associated with UNL/NIC resources;
- 5) client confidentiality.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in plant science or a closely related field of study.
- Four years of experience in any combination of greenhouse management, laboratory research, and/or business operations.
- Extensive background in plant research and greenhouse operations (including IPM) are necessary.
- Background must demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to interact with faculty, staff, students and industry clients on all levels.
- Must also possess demonstrated problem solving, research and research protocol, organizational, management, and financial skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or knowledge of transformation methods, GMOs and the regulations covering GMOs and recombinant DNA.
- Knowledge of federal and state guidelines/regulations related to genetically engineered (GE) organisms, pathogens, and pest species.
- Knowledge of NIH guidelines for biosafety level (BL)1+ greenhouse operations related DNA recombinant, pathogens and pest species.
- Nebraska Pesticide Applicators License.
