The Field Trial Manager will be a member of the U. S. Field Development team within the BASF Plant Science organization. This team performs critical activities necessary to advance BPS's plant breeding and biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effectively as possible.
The Manager will have responsibility for coordinating the implementation of a regulated rice field trial program based in the U.S. Midsouth. This program supports the field testing needs of a Global high throughput rice trait pipeline. This position will be a team leader for the regional field trial team. These team members have direct operational oversight responsibilities for regulated rice field trial program testing locations within their individual regions. As the program develops, the Manager will also be expected to have direct oversight for field testing locations. This position will be responsible for ensuring that sound agronomic and cultural practices are being followed at each field trial location and that all data collectiion parameters are conducted and submitted according to standards and timelines. The position will also be responsible for ensuring the implementation of BPS Responsible Care program and adherence to Stewardship and Regulatory requirements. This position will be based in either central Arkansas or west central Mississippi within proximity of the key rice production areas within these regions. Other locations within proximity of the region could be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS: - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
REQUIRED:
- Ph.D. in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Crop Science, Genetics, Crop Protection, Biological Sciences or equivalent with 5 years direct experience, or M.S (similar background) with 10 years direct experience, or B.S (similar background) with 13 years direct experience
- Possess demonstrable operational knowledge of rice agronomic and cultural practices
- Field trial experience in rice conducting agronomic, varietal, herbicide, insecticide or similar trial types
- Demonstrated experience with small plot field trial equipment including planters and combines
- Demonstrated experience recognizing the significance of field results from a scientific and commercial point of view
- Experience setting technical objectives for research, pre-commercial development or commercial development projects
- Experience working in an independent setting while also working within and across teams
- Expertise with MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Internet Explorer, and Lotus Notes (or MS Outlook) in a network environment
- Fluency in English
DESIRED:
- Experience working with regulated (GMO) material and associated USDA-APHIS requirements
- Experience managing a multi-location field testing network
- Previous supervisory experience
- Demonstrated expertise with handheld data collection devices, label printers/software, seed counters, moisture meters, threshers, and other instruments unique to the industry
