BioWorks, Inc. is a supplier to the agriculture industry of
biological control ("biocontrol") products that enhance plant health,
plant productivity and consumer and worker safety. Utilizing
intellectual properties obtained under an exclusive licensing agreement
with Cornell Research Foundation ("CRF"), an affiliate of Cornell
University ("Cornell"), the Company currently develops, manufactures and
markets fungal based biocontrol products.
The Company’s Biocontrol business is based on the natural, non-chemical
control of yield reducing fungal plant root diseases using its patented
fungus, Trichoderma harzianum, strain T-22 (‘T-22’). T-22 based
products replace or significantly reduce the
need for chemical fungicides to control fungal
root diseases. |
The
Company’s flagship products, RootShield®,
PlantShield®, T-22™ Planter Box and TurfShield™,
are Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA")
registered and have quickly gained market
acceptance and brand name recognition.
These products contain spores from T-22 and are
introduced into the soil used for greenhouse
plants and turf, or are placed directly onto the
seed during planting for agricultural row and
field crops. There, the beneficial microbes grow
on the roots of the plant, feeding on byproducts
exuded by the roots as part of the plant's
normal growing process. Once the beneficial
fungus has "colonized" the roots, it will
challenge and kill pathogenic fungi attempting
to penetrate the roots and feed upon them. |
This is accomplished through a variety of
mechanisms, including
physical contact and secretion of numerous enzymes (proteins), like
multiple forms of chitinase, which damages the invading fungal cell
wall.
BioWorks, Inc. is the successor company to TGT, Inc, formed in June of
1993 by the founders of BioWorks, and is incorporated under the laws of
the state of Delaware. The Company is located in Geneva, New York where
it rent space for offices, two manufacturing facilities and a research
facility under long-term lease agreements. |
