The Asia
Pacific region is home to key agricultural research institutes
such as AVRDC, IRRI, etc. How do these contribute to the
development of the seed industry in the region?
|
 |
CGIAR
institutions such as IRRI, CIMMYT, ICRISAT and ICARDA have
helped the seed industry in this region by providing
germplasm, technology and training.
The role of AVRDC in the development
of the vegetable seed industry has also been exemplary.
AVRDC has not only
developed vegetable germplasm of commercial value for Asian
crops, it has also shared it with the seed industry in the
region. APSA members and AVRDC are negotiating for a research
contract on molecular markers and are developing some
protocols for the use of the seed industry. The role of AVRDC
in technology transfer and training in seed production,
processing and testing of vegetable seeds has also been very
helpful to the industry. |
