We have in Italy subsidiaries of the
major seed companies but also family-owned companies that
operate at the regional level. Close to integrated companies,
combining research, multiplication and distribution, there are
firms operating in the distribution while others are devoted
exclusively to the multiplication for third parties.
However, I think that all the major
multinational seed companies are present in the Italian
market, directly or indirectly. This confirms the importance
and the interest towards Italian agriculture, that obviously
takes advantage of the best and innovative varieties and seed
products that are offered.
It is sufficient to consider the unit
yields for maize, among the highest in the world, as well as
the intensive vegetable productions.
