You are
actively involved in the International Seed Health
Initiatives, which were established in 1994 under the auspices
of the International Seed Federation (FIS). Please give us
some background on these initiatives and explain what their
objectives are. |
 |
The International
Seed Health Initiatives (or ISHI) actually began as a movement
by the vegetable seed companies, independent of FIS. Our goal
was to deliver a healthy seed product to the users of seed
worldwide by standardizing seed health testing methods and
promoting the use of healthy seed production practices.
The original ISHI for vegetables began with seed companies
(and testing labs) from the five primary vegetable seed
producing countries—The United States, The Netherlands,
France, Israel and Japan. FIS took over the administration of
the ISHI movement, last year. At that time ISHI’s for corn,
soybeans and herbage crops were started. STA became involved
with ISHI, because many of its clients were involved with the
group and asked that we participate. |
