From your
perspective, what are currently the major issues, significant
challenges and key opportunities in the seed industry? |
 |
Our vision is "better seed, producing
better crops, for a better quality of life." U.S. agriculture
is currently producing bigger, not better, crops in a world
market dominated by excess commodity production. In the
future, U.S. farmers, using modern biotechnology, will have
the opportunity to differentiate the crops they grow.
The key opportunities for the seed
industry will be two-fold: the distribution of value-added
seed and the identity preservation of value-added crops. Sale
of future seed varieties will require strong technical skills.
I see a seed industry in which well-managed companies have
nearly unlimited opportunities to introduce and market novel
seed varieties.
Farmers who grow new high-value crops
will require expertise on how to segregate those crops during
and after production. The seed industry can provide that
expertise. |
