The biggest force
shaping the flower industry today is the introduction of new
species that we haven’t seen before.
There is a tremendous demand for anything "new and
different". This is being lead by the tremendous growth in the
non-seed sector, or vegetative cutting side of the industry.
We are doing more and more research on crops that are sold
as cuttings (plant parts) instead of seed. These types of
products are easier and faster to breed and get into
production, because we only need a couple of plants from which
to build production. We don’t have to do as much in-breeding,
and we don’t have to go through the seed production process
either.
