Dr. Kent J. Bradford - UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center - USA

July 2002

How has the SBC been funded so far, and where will future funding come from?
After initial support from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis, the SBC's current operational funding is provided by an assessment program operated through the state of California. The California Seed Advisory Board has the authority to levy an assessment based on the value of seeds sold in California, and a small part of this is directed to the SBC.

Other uses for this fund are to help support the state seed laboratory, to support enforcement of the seed law, and to support arbitration and dispute resolution. It is our hope and expectation that the seed industry will continue to contribute to the SBC's operations through this fund.

Research projects are funded individually by private cooperators or by grants written by SBC staff.
