How do you quantify the value added that seed enhancement contributes to the seed products sold to farmers?
  • From the benefits it provides to the grower: Improved uniformity of germination, improved stand establishment, reduced seeding rates with some crops, higher usable plug/plant percentage and reduced greenhouse seedling production cycle time.
  • Could result in less harvest expense and could allow the grower to do (consider) mechanical harvesting.
  • The shortening of bench and crop time is a major value, since it results in a reduction of direct cost; this coupled with possibly more uniform harvest results in higher % of usable product as well as reduced harvest costs.
  • With some lots and some species there is a slight to modest improvement in germination %.
