HERC Products Inc., Portsmouth, Virginia, and
Becker Underwood Inc.,
Ames, Iowa, have signed an agreement giving Becker Underwood
exclusive rights to market HERC's patented and proprietary salt
management technology for turf, horticulture and agriculture
markets.
 The product has been marketed in the past under the Line-Out®
brand name. Becker Underwood will continue marketing Line-Out in
the horticulture and agricultural markets. The company will
introduce the technology to golf and professional grounds
maintenance markets under the SaLibré™ brand name.
"Line-Out is a novel, complex 'soap' consisting of an organic
acid and an organic amine," explained Cozette Hadley, business
unit manager for Becker Underwood. "In the horticulture and
production agriculture markets, it has been used as a tool to
'wash' mineral deposits (salts and bicarbonates) from drip,
micro-sprinkler and other low-volume irrigation systems. It also
has been used to help prevent mineral scale formation in
irrigation lines."
Unlike strong acid compounds, Line-Out will not damage acid
sensitive irrigation system components such as the aluminum,
brass, copper, mild steel or plastics used in drip and
micro-sprinkler systems. And since Line-Out is not a strong
acid, it can be used without the worry of creating zones of
excess soil acidity around emitters.
"We believe this technology from HERC provides an effective and
important new tool for horticultural and agricultural producers
faced with the challenges caused by scale accumulation in
irrigation equipment," Hadley said. "The same chemistry employed
in Line-Out has been used with great success on Navy vessels, in
municipal water treatment systems and in numerous other
non-agricultural applications."
