Great Lakes Hybrids introduces G3 series hybrids and 35 new products
Ovid, Michigan
August 1, 2005

With the launch of the triple-stacked G3 series, using exceptional proprietary germplasm, Great Lakes Hybrids has taken the lead in the genetics race. Mike Stephenson, Great Lakes Hybrids brand manager, sees the G3 series as the “ultimate intersection of technology and nature.”

“For the past 20 years, Great Lakes Hybrids has achieved the highest winning percentage of championships, of every major seed company, in the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) National Corn Yield Contest. Ninety percent of the NCGA wins were using a traited hybrid (YGCB, YGRW, RR2 or stacked). The G3 series will build on this winning record,” said Stephenson.

Great Lakes Hybrids has developed four of its top champions as triple-stacked G3 hybrids, effectively marrying the world’s top breeding technology, germplasm and yield protection in one hybrid series. Those hybrids – 4297 G3, 5098 G3, 5961 G3 and Quad-5 G3 – are available now for 2006 planting.

In 2005, Great Lakes tested more than 50,000 new genetic combinations which yielded 24 new hybrids from 19 unique, new genetic lines, along with 11 new soybean varieties. The descriptions of these
new products (including the G3 series hybrids) are listed below.

So how does this benefit the farmer?

Great Lakes’ proprietary germplasm is one of the richest privately-owned germplasm bases in the world, providing an unusually deep pool of championship genetics and an exceptionally fertile environment for new hybrids. Working with their parent company, AgReliant Genetics, GLH now introduces the world’s first commercial doubled-haploid program, allowing the company to produce new, better hybrids in less than a third of the typical timeframe. Great Lakes Hybrids offers seed that is truly “Generations Ahead,” a proven winner in NCGA and F.I.R.S.T. trials today, and promising even more in the future.

Great Lakes Hybrids is the largest Michigan-based seed corn supplier and a brand of AgReliant Genetics, LLC. With the industry’s fourth-largest research program, Great Lakes Hybrids and AgReliant Genetics have been able to produce top-performing conventional genetics for incorporation of new transgenic traits. Great Lakes Hybrids has also produced more winners per entry of any other seed company in the National Corn Grower’s annual Corn Yield Contest.
