OBJECTIVE:

CURRENT AREA OF RESEARCH INTEREST:

1 Standardization of seed testing protocols in accordance to ISTA norms in medicinal plants.
2 Studying various aspects of seed morphology and embryology in medicinal plans with regards to germination & seed biology.
3 Studying various aspects of seed dormancy covering evaluation of dormancy status, kind and class of dormancy expected based on preliminary germination along with identifying pre-treatments and additives for breaking physical and chemical dormancy results in medicinal plants.
4 Evolving various molecular characterization techniques viz. PAGE, RAPD, PCR, Gel-electrophoresis for the above mentioned studies.

RESEARCH WORK DONE:

Accomplished researcher with three years of research experience along with a team of best-in-the field people with proven results in successful formulation of seed testing protocols in medicinal plants.

1 We have standardized topographical tetrazolium test for each species for testing the viability of fresh and ungerminated (FU) seeds*.
2 We have standardized technique for isolation of good and high quantity DNA from Solanum nigrum**.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:

1 Knowledge of various aspects of seed testing including Physical Purity, Germination percentage, Moisture testing, Seed vigor, Classification of dormancy & dormancy breaking treatments.
2 Experience of tetrazolium testing for seed viability with regard to germination.
3 Molecular characterization techniques of RAPD.
4 Other characterization techniques of PAGE, PCR, Gel-electrophoresis.

ACDEMIC PROFILES:

RESEARCH TRAININGS DONE

• 4 months research training on RAPD on various varieties of Banana from different parts of India titled "Estimation of genetic Diversity Among Banana varieties using RAPD Markers" under the guidance of Prof. N. Narayanswamy in the Plant Molecular Biology Lab, Department of Horticulture, University of Agriculture Sciences (UAS), GKVK Banglore during May-August 2006.

• 15 days training on studying TB (Mycobacterium Tuberculosis) and Leprosy Bacteria (Mycobacterium Leprae). We checked the presence of Bacteria using Micro-arrays (DNA chip technique) got familiarized with Bac T- Colorimetric culture system, and then analyzed them using molecular techniques of real time PCR, RAPD, Dot-blot, Southern Blot, RFLP, Gel electrophoresis, Electron Microscopy, DNA sequencing, In-situ hybridization, proteomics (involving Protein Sequencing, 2D- protein electrophoresis) in JALMA (Japanese Leprosy Mission of Asia) an Institute under Indian Council of Medical Research in Agra UP under the guidance of Prof. V. M. Katoch, Director JALMA (ICMR) during 01.07.2005 to 15.07.2005.
