This position has an emphasis in
genetics and linkage mapping approaches. The individual selected
for this position will design and implement a research plan and
execute the process of the continuous discovery and development
of the specified technologies, procedures and products and
assist the scientist in the development of innovative and
competitive products, procedures and technologies and in the
improvement of time–to-market of new products.
Responsibilities
-
Perform routine and advanced
laboratory work, including nucleic acid isolation, PCR,
agarose and polyacrylamide electrophoresis, data analysis
and interpretation
-
Perform plant tissue sample
collection and other greenhouse-related duties necessary for
marker development
-
Development of new molecular
markers and genetic linkage maps
-
Perform quantitative trait
loci (QTL) mapping
-
Facilitate marker-assisted
selections
-
Evaluate and incorporate
emerging marker-related technologies into existing program
-
Management of assigned
outsourced projects
-
Supervision of temporary labor
and lab technicians
-
Carry out other activities and
responsibilities as directed
Educational Qualifications
Desired
-
Candidates must possess a
Masters degree in biology, genetics, molecular biology,
plant breeding or a related field with an experience of 1 to
3 years in a research laboratory.
-
Candidates with Bachelors
degree and relevant work experience will be considered.
Skills and Experience Desired
-
Practical experience in DNA
marker applications (i.e. AFLPs, SSRs, SNPs, etc.)
-
Background emphasis in
genetics, physical and linkage mapping and QTL analysis
-
Knowledge of conventional
breeding is an advantage
-
Functional knowledge of
statistics applicable to genetic analyses
-
Experience in genetic
diversity analysis and graphical genotyping
-
Practical experience in gene
cloning, sequencing and sequence analysis, and primer
designing
-
Knowledge of candidate gene
analysis and biosynthesis pathways
-
Bioinformatics experience
beneficial
-
Ability to work independently
and as part of a TEAM

Good interpersonal skills
-
Strong familiarity with PC and
Microsoft programs

Strong analytical and
reasoning abilities
-
Excellent communication
skills; both written and verbal

Willingness and capacity to
learn and acquire relevant new skill sets
Working Conditions
Work with
laboratory chemicals and other possibly irritating
substances. Long periods of standing, bending, and/or sitting performing
repetitive tasks. Able to work long and irregular hours when necessary and/or
required.
