AVRDC seeks a Scientist to lead AVRDC’s biotechnology group in
the application of molecular tools to vegetable breeding and
conduct research in applied genomics related to AVRDC’s research
and development strategy. The position will be based at AVRDC’s
Headquarters in Shanhua, Tainan, Taiwan.
The Job:
-
Lead the
development and application of biotechnology tools that will
accelerate the introduction of new traits from AVRDC’s crop
germplasm collections into AVRDC’s vegetable breeding lines
and increase the rate of development of new varieties.
-
Identify,
characterize and utilize new traits and associated markers
to introgress valuable alleles into vegetable germplasm
through wide crosses, gene mapping, marker-assisted
selection, bioinformatics, and other genomic tools.
-
Elucidate
the genetic, physiological and molecular basis of tolerance
to abiotic stresses.
-
Optimize
the markers for trait selection in a high throughput marker
assisted selection environment.
-
Develop
simple, low cost, and efficient genotyping protocols with
the genotyping team and ensure the deployment of validated
markers to the Center’s breeders for wide and appropriate
use.
-
Enhance
the capacity of partners in the use of molecular markers and
other biotechnology tools.
-

scientist with a PhD degree in plant breeding, genetics,
plant molecular biology or a related field with ten years of
experience in molecular breeding or applied genomics.
-
Expertise
in marker technologies, using databases, sequence analysis,
linkage map construction, trait/QTL analysis and the use of
statistical and genetic analysis software will be an

-
Fluency
in spoken and written English is essential.
-
The
scientist must be able to work as a member of
interdisciplinary teams in a multicultural and multinational
