POSITION: Research Director – Crops Biotechnology

Job Description:
Rasi Seeds seeks for a
Senior level candidate to take a lead position in Crops
Biotechnology. The leader will guide and supervise the
molecular breeding activities and genetic transformation in
cotton, rice and vegetable crops. He will be responsible to
guide a team of 25 researchers involved in gene discovery,
development of molecular markers associated with traits of
agronomic interest and genetic transformation in the above
crops. The team operates across breeding and biotech
disciplines on integrated discovery approaches combining
plant breeding and genetics, molecular biology, genomics,
bioinformatics and recombinant DNA technology. The major
activities include:
- Oversee and
co-ordinate the execution of biotech research activities
in molecular breeding and genetic transformation in
different crops and provide leadership to the research
staff
- Develop research
strategies for the company’s biotech activities in
cotton, rice, and vegetable crops
- Maintain awareness of
new developments and scientific advances in the field
through active monitoring of internal and external
activities and participate in or lead the acquisition of
new technologies or methodologies as appropriate
- Guidance in the
development of molecular markers for various agronomic
in different crops of the company and production of
transgenic crops with desirable genes; also guidance for
deployment of transgenic crops and biotech products
through regulatory systems
- Develop strategies to
handle IPR issues on new technologies related to genetic
engineering and molecular breeding; secure intellectual
property protection as appropriate and maintain
awareness of intellectual property landscape and
evolutions
- Budget management of
biotech activities of the company and forecast cost
analysis to the management
- Report project
progress and achievements
Qualification, Skills &
Experience:
The candidate should have
Ph.D. Biotechnology or related field with international
experience in biotechnology research for over 10 years; must
be below 50 years age.
Should have dynamic leadership capabilities with
acquaintance with international institutions dealing in
Biotechnology research.
Experience over 10 years in managing crop biotechnology
activities, of which at least 3 years should be in
independently leading the facility/programme is desirable.
Excellent people management& communication skills and
demonstrated ability in managing successfully research by
providing leadership to the team preferably in a seed
industry
