POSITION:  Dent Corn Breeder

Illinois Foundation Seeds, Inc. is a leading research, product development and, licensing company serving the seed industry. Our dent corn breeding program is designed to deliver high quality corn inbreds and hybrids for licensing worldwide. Our corn breeding and development team develops high yielding competitive hybrids from 95 to 115 days in maturity. The IFSI corn breeding team is committed to development and dedicated to quality.

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate is responsible for all phases of planning and implementing a corn inbred development program resulting in commercially competitive hybrid corn products.

  • Administration of the breeding program includes planning and implementing an experimental hybrid production program resulting in hybrid seed inventories necessary to support all levels of performance evaluation.

  • The selected individual is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, and integration of a molecular marker assisted corn breeding program.

  • Maintain adequate facilities and equipment for effective and efficient program function.

  • The successful candidate will need to develop a thorough knowledge of IFSI’s dent corn germplasm in order to provide input on the product development process and breeding strategy for the dent corn  breeding team.

  • The successful candidate will be a key member of the dent corn breeding team and will need to have management experience and outstanding organization and communication skills.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Plant Breeding/Genetics/Agronomy with 3 to 5 years of agricultural research experience.

  • Three to 5 years of experience managing others.

  • A strong background in plant breeding, genetics, statistics, and experimental design, molecular biology and molecular marker technologies.

  • A proven record of innovation and process improvement in a breeding program.

  • Experience in introgressing diverse germplasm sources.

  • Ability to accurately forecast and manage budgets and capital expenditures.

  • Self-starter with team leadership skills, including excellent organizational and record-keeping skills and the ability to foster a positive team environment.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer skills related to data acquisition and analysis.

  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Prism and Word.
