POSITION:  Data Production Assistant

Seminis is seeking talented individuals to our High Throughput Genotyping team in Woodland, California. Our team provides molecular marker technology services for the production of genotype data to support vegetable and row crop breeding.

Responsibilities:

  • Operating and troubleshooting state-of-the-art robotic equipment for PCR reaction assembly, DNA extraction, and sample processing.
  • Using fluorescence detection and other means for capturing PCR results.
  • Analyzing and delivering high-quality genotyping data.
  • Adhering to established protocols.
  • Communicating across teams on a daily basis.

    The candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will need to build strong relationships and networks with Monsanto managers, peers, and partners.

    Along with data production, the individual will be responsible for working with the Monsanto Breeding Technology team in driving implementation of new technology and methods in order to meet the genotyping production demands.

Required Experience/Education/Attributes:

  • BS degree or higher in Science or Engineering with a minimum of 1 year of experience in a data production setting.
  • Work with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with laboratory robotics and automation.
  • Ability to diagnose and remedy hardware and software problems quickly as they relate to laboratory equipment and automation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with other team members.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.

    Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed coursework in molecular biology, genetics, plant breeding and statistics.

Desired Experience/Education/Attributes:

  • At least 2 years of automation lab or data production experience outside of academic labs.
  • Aptitude with laboratory information management systems.
  • Evidence of strong talents in the areas of problem solving, agility, self motivation and attention to detail.
  • Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or ISO certification is highly desirable.

Less than 10% travel time is expected within this role.
