This position is part of the
Mycogen Seeds organization, an affiliate of Dow
AgroSciences.
The Research Technician will assist in day to day operations of
corn breeding programs. This position will provide technical
assistance to the breeders for the development of new inbreds
and hybrids that contribute to the commercial success of the
company. Work activities will include assisting with the
management of nursery sites, identifying and managing isolation
and yield testing sites, conducting and supervising temporary
employees in seed packaging, planting, pollination and harvest.
The Research Technician will work with breeders and Field
Biologists at the location in a team orientated environment with
training in cross functional areas.
Typical activities may include:

Operate and maintain field
equipment. Load and transport field equipment.

Assist with the identification
and management of isolation and testing sites.

Assist in seed processing,
planting, pollinating and harvesting nursery material.

Assist in seed processing,
planting and harvesting of yield trial testing locations,
including data entry of root and stalk lodging notes.

Assist in supervising
temporary personnel for thinning, pollinating, harvest, and
seed handling.

Be an active member of the
Staff Team concept at the station.

Be involved with safety
program functions.

Travel to outlying sites and
winter nursery facilities as needed.
Qualifications:
-
High school diploma with 3 to
5 years experience in agricultural research, or AA degree in
agriculture or related field is required.

Knowledge and training in
agronomic practices for the local area including safe
application of farm chemicals is highly desired.

Effective communication skills
and good organizational skills are essential for success.

Familiarity with basic farm
equipment operation and maintenance is highly desired.

CDL and Commercial Pesticide
license, or the ability to acquire, are required.

Basic computer skills and
capabilities are required including basic proficiency in MS
Excel and MS Word.
