Biologist, Trait Introgression
This position is part of

Under the general supervision of the Field Introgression
Coordinator/Site Leader, the Field Research Biologist-Field
Introgression will apply crop breeding principles and transgenic
crop development skills to plan, implement, monitor and analyze
event sorting and trait introgression nurseries in full
compliance with all Dow AgroSciences (DAS), State and Federal
regulations. Additionally this position will support the Field
Introgression Coordinator/Site Leader with administration and
site specific projects to ensure location goals are met.
Responsibilities will include:

Manage various event sorting
and trait introgression activities, including but not
limited to; nursery planning, nursery site selection, seed
handling, planting, thinning, gene checking, tissue
sampling, pollinating, note-taking, plant selection,
harvesting, drying, data analysis, reporting, and seed
shipping.

Ensure that the program is in
full compliance with all DAS, State and Federal requirements
governing regulated transgenic field testing activities.

Provide on-going leadership,
coaching and feedback to Research Technicians and part-time
employees.

Actively participate in a
multi-disciplinary Field Introgression Team comprised of
lab, field and management personnel.

Contribute leadership skills,
ideas and support for all station initiatives including
those relating to Human Resources, Environmental Health &
Safety (EH&S), cross-functional teams and community
development activities.

Travel to other Field
Introgression locations and Research Stations and
Laboratories as needed.

Ensure that DAS EH&S, DOT and
station regulations and policies are enforced.

Manage station activities in
Field Introgression Coordinator/Site Leader’s absence.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelors, Masters or PhD
degree in Crop Genetics, agronomy or a related field is
required.

Solid understanding of
genetics and/or molecular biology, agronomy, statistics,
transgenic crop development, emerging technologies and
customers needs are critical for success.

Previous experience with crop
breeding program is desirable.

Demonstrated personal
leadership, interpersonal, analytical and organizational
skills are highly desirable.

Ability to take initiative and
work effectively on teams is essential.

Capacity to adapt to living
and working in a challenging environment is required.

Must have enthusiasm and
aptitude for learning and continuous improvement of critical
research activities.

Extremely well developed
computer skills are very beneficial.
