POSITION:  Research Associate

Job location: Woodland, California

We seek a motivated
Research Associate at our Woodland, California location.

In this role the candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with data collection and data entry into MIDAS.

  • Purchasing supplies and maintaining supply inventories.

  • Insuring that all invoices are paid by working with Vendors and Accounts Payable. Also responsible for necessary paperwork signing up new vendors.

  • Support Production Technology data collection in field and cages as requested.

  • Support Foundation Seed data collection in field and cages as needed.

  • Collect, prepare, and ship plant tissue samples as directed for molecular marker research.

  • Grow greenhouse plants.

  • Package and ship trial seed as requested.

  • Maintain seed inventory, including annual seed inventory reconciliation.

  • Assist with maintenance of seed and bulb crops as directed, including harvest of seed and bulbs.

  • Assist with bulb grading and evaluation as directed.

  • Support BioTech projects in crossing and backcrossing while following applicable governmental and  Monsanto regulations.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Genetics or related field

  • 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Some travel will be required in support of onion breeding program

  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English

  • Computer skills to include standard Microsoft office software and the ability to learn other software systems

Desired skills:

  • Experience with ESH compliance and in growing and working with plants.

  • Posses or have the ability to obtain pesticide applicators license, forklift license and tractor driver license.

  • Have foresight and take the initiative to accomplish necessary tasks.

  • Be results oriented, completing tasks in a timely manner.

  • Organized, with good record keeping skills.
