In this role the SEED LAB TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE is
responsible for technical activities and training support for
all routine testing within the Oxnard Seed Lab. The candidate
will manage ring test and control tests to assure consistent and
accurate results and train and validate that all lab personnel
can effectively and efficiently conduct germination, vigor,
greenhouse, physical purity and specialized tests. Additionally,
the candidate will support transitions of new tests and
technologies, assure proper test methods are followed and
results are accurate, implement process control using Six Sigma
concepts and support continuous improvement.
Additional responsibilities:

Review
test data and retest logic and recommends applicable test
method improvements

Lead
projects to improve test methods, improve efficiency to
favorably reduce costs.

Provide
RST support for lab.

Review
test data and retest logic and recommends applicable test

Execute
collaborative projects to improve test methods, ability to
analyze data, and write conclusions.

Support
and provides training link in commercial lab for transition
of new tests. Conducts and trains for all tests, assists
with interpretation of results and provides recommendations.

Review
test results and performs analysis as a base for
recommending future improvement.

Manage
retest logic on a daily basis and identifies areas to
address related employee training and / or test method
improvement.

Provide
research support in production technology or seed technology
or other areas to improve current protocols or develop new
methods.

May be
requested to be involved in other areas related to seed
science
The successful candidate will
possess a Bachelor of Science (B. S.) degree with an RST
(Registered Seed Technologist) and 3 years experience or Master
of Science (M.S.) in plant or seed physiology or related field
or combination of education and experience. Knowledge of seed
germination, TZ, vigor and UT testing methods, seed testing
equipment and facilities is highly desirable. Excellent
interpersonal skills and effective oral and written
communication skills are essential. Occasional travel is
required. Supervisory abilities are also desirable.
