POSITION:
Senior
Research & Development Manager
East African Seed Co. Ltd. is a leading vegetable seed
company in East Africa founded in year 1972. In their
diversified field crops breeding programme there is an immediate
opening for Senior Research & Development Manager, based in
Nairobi, Kenya.
Job Description
-
We are
seeking a strong research leader with excellent strategic
vision, a passion for field crops and vegetable hybrids.

The
Senior Research & Development Manager will be responsible
for field trials and evaluation both on-site at our Research
Farm near Nairobi and multi- locations in East Africa. This
includes providing analysis, preparing reports and
recommendations and also liaison with the EASEED team to
provide direction and input to both our research as well as
commercial programs.

The
Senior Research & Development Manager’s will be responsible
to take a leading role for developing good public relations
with scientific and other professional communities in the
industry and interact with public and private vegetable
breeders from and around the world to provide input into
research goals and direction geared towards meeting the
local needs.

The
Senior Research & Development Manager will manage a team of
full and part time agronomists and scientists and have
responsibility and accountability for an annual research
budget, and will also need to be able to travel fairly
extensively.
Qualifications
-
PhD
degree- Plant Breeding preferably in field crops and at
least 10 years of strong and proven experience in agronomic
field testing and trialing of hybrid and OPVs.

Proven
ability to manage people, farm and research activities and
budgets and understanding of the relationship between plant
sciences, processing technologies and human nutrition will
be an added advantage.

Strong
written and verbal communication skills as well as problem
solving abilities and ability to work under pressure in a
small and tightly interconnected Team, focusing on the
common goal.

The
Senior Research & Development Manager will need to be able
to manage a number of simultaneous projects with different
objectives, time-lines and outputs and ability to travel
extensively.
