POSITION:  Research Associate

Position : Research Associate

Job Description

Ensure timely release of genotyping data from molecular marker labs. The job entails genotypic data analysis using standard operating practices, and preliminary QC of the data.

Primary Responsibility

Use proprietary software to make allele calls on the data generated from labs situated in remote locations (Corn SNP labs in Dallas Center, Iowa and Waimea, Hawaii and possibly other future Pioneer marker labs).

Major Duties

  • As part of the data analysis and data QC group, support a high throughput environment and provide analytical marker support for scientists

  • Accurately and efficiently score, review, analyze, and upload maker data to the database. Closely monitor the marker performance and help maintain a robust list of markers in production.

  • Devise efficient ways of managing large amount of data.

  • Decide the correct genotype that is to be assigned, so that high quality data is received by the users of the data consistently.

  • Annotate the markers based on the quality characteristics.

Educational Qualifications Desired

  • MSc. Degree in Biological Sciences, Genetics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related discipline with two years of relevant experience.

Competencies and Experience Desired

  • Work experience in a high throughput genotyping.

  • Experience in molecular marker scoring software

  • Good computer, written and oral communicational skills

  • Experience with standard laboratory techniques and understanding of marker technology

  • Well organized, detail oriented, and working in a deadline driven fast-paced work environment are desirable
