Under the general supervision of
the site field breeder and manager, the Station Operations
Leader for Sidney, Illinois will be responsible for the
implementation of the breeding and testing of corn in an
efficient and safe manner. The Station operations leader will be
the site team leader and have administrative leadership
responsibilities for the staff including the responsibility for
coaching of staff at the station to maximize performance, build
a culture of safety, adhere to Dow AgroSciences compliance
policies, and develop their careers. In addition the Station
operations Leader will apply field breeding methodologies;
provide field plot design expertise, interpersonal skills,
agronomic expertise, and field equipment experience. All actions
will be conducted in a fair and safe manner.
Responsibilities will include:

Work with site field breeders
to develop and manage an annual station budget that supports
research goals and objectives. Will be the implementation
lead for all station budget activities.

Be the site team leader and
have administrative leadership responsibilities for the
station staff responsible for the implementation of
projects. Responsible for coaching of staff at the station
to maximize performance, build a culture of safety, adhere
to DAS compliance policies, and develop their careers.

Ensure that DAS EH&S, DOT and
station regulations and policies are enforced.

Supervise and plan out duties
for full time and part-time positions at the Sidney, IL site
to implement the breeding and testing plan of work in the
most efficient and safe manner.

Collaborate with other
research stations within DAS to exchange ideas, plots, data
and other items to maximize performance of the team.

Conduct various field research
activities, including but not limited to: assist in
coordinating breeding efforts in summer and winter
nurseries, manage disease screening nurseries, marker
assisted breeding nurseries, supervise the establishment of
working relationships with grower cooperators, planting,
note-taking, harvesting, data analysis, reporting, and
sample shipping.

Travel to outlying stations
and winter nursery facilities as needed.

Assist in data analysis and
making selections in local breeding projects.

Participate in sales and
agronomy meetings and support as needed.

Travel to outlying trial
locations and other Research Stations and Laboratories as
needed.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelors or Masters degree in
Crop Genetics, agronomy or a related field is required.

Solid understanding of
agronomy, statistics, field equipment and customers needs is
essential.

Previous experience with crop
breeding program is desirable.

Strong interpersonal
effectiveness and personal leadership skills are required to
successfully lead teams and people and understand the
importance of developing the careers of direct reports.

Ability to take initiative and
work effectively on teams is critical.

Must have enthusiasm and
aptitude for learning and continuous improvement of critical
research activities and have well developed computer skills.
