POSITION:  Seed Enhancement Manager

Location: Parma, Idaho

The individual selected for this position will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing all functions of the Seed Enhancement Department for all pre-commercial and commercial inventories with a focus on high quality and on time processing of seed disinfection, priming and pelleting.

Responsibilities

  • Direct accountability for the precise and accurate execution of all seed enhancements related to:
    o Seed disinfection (eradication of seed borne pathogens in chemical or heat treatments)
    o Priming (pre-germination of seeds)
    o Pelleting (encapsulation of seeds in pellets)

  • Implement highly developed drying resources within seed enhancement for an accurate and reliable drying process of enhanced seeds.

  • Develop, maintain and follow Standard Operating Procedures for drying and storage of all enhanced seed inventory according company standards.

  • Design, maintain and monitor the Master Planning for all Seed Enhancement activities and resources.

  • Maintain all enhancement equipment in a fully operable and predictable manner to ensure that seed product is processed in a timely fashion.

  • Manage and organize the purchases of all raw materials needed for a smooth operation of the Seed Enhancement department. Assure that the minimum safety stock of raw materials will not be exceeded.

  • Implement new enhancement processes / techniques / methods within the department once it’s decided for commercial implementation.

  • Develop, write and maintain the Nunhems Global Standard Operation Procedures and Protocols and Work Instructions for Seed Enhancement.

  • Define and promote a safe working environment for all departmental workers through active participation in accordance with corporate, local, state and federal mandates to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Train, coach, support and motivate the Seed Enhancement Team Leader and Operators.

  • Support development through constructive target and goal setting. Provide feedback and counseling on individual progress.

  • Continual monitoring and evaluation of the department budget and expenditures, ensuring capital and overhead costs are within defined targets.

  • Pro-actively participate in and visit workshops, seminars, related exhibitions to stay in touch with new developments.

Educational Qualifications Desired

  • Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture or related field, with an emphasis in seed physiology preferred.

Skills and Experience Desired

  • Five years or more experience in seed enhancement procedures and techniques.

  • Three years or more experience in a supervisory position.

  • Good people management and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to train and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing needs.

  • Ability to work as a cross-functional team member at various peak times with energy to complete assigned goals.

  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.

  • Good communication skill both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work with diverse personalities maintaining mutual respect.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in both an office setting and outdoors.

  • Exposure to heat, dust, potential hazardous chemicals and noise.

  • Domestic and international travel required.
