POSITION:
Plant Breeder
with experience in development of dihaploid breeding lines
Location: Guatemala City,
Guatemala
Job description:
This position will entail plant breeding of maize, and jatropha
along with the development and implementation of protocols to
create dihaploid lines in maize, jatropha, capsicum, and tomato.

Selection
of desired traits in screening of germplasm
-
Inbred
development
-
Hybrid
breeding program coordinate pollination program
-
Develop
protocols for anther and microspore culture
-
Coordinate pollinations, harvest and collection of harvest
data
-
Work in
the field to move selected breeding material into the
greenhouse (plants, cuttings or seed).

Assist in
the day-today operations of greenhouses, fields and seed
rooms
-
Prep
common laboratory stocks, inventory control/ordering of
consumables and oversight of lab equipment
Requirements
-
5-7 years
related experience
-
BA
required
-
Phd or
MSc preferred
-
Knowledge
of plant breeding, flow cytometry, plant biology statistics
and anther culture
-
Computer
skills using statistical programs and reporting
-
Strong
communication skills English is a requisite and Spanish
preferred
-
Must be
able to work in a team setting coordinating with entire
research team
