Director of Growing Operations for Desert Southwest.

This person will oversee approximately 5 growers in a coaching/mentoring role; will observe, develop a plan for improvement, and develop team buy in.

Key job functions & Responsibilities include:

• Oversee the growing operation and seek continuous improvement in the growing processes.

• Make facility infrastructure recommendations in an effort to produce higher quality results.

• Develop the team to achieve a higher level of understanding and growing proficiency.

• Schedule the growing staff.

• Seek new technologies which will yield higher quality and lower costs.

• Work closely with QC department to develop quality control systems.

To be successful, the Director will also do the following:

• Monitor crop quality twice a day, Walk the crops as much as possible.

• Ask a lot of questions.

• Probe growers to determine if the right approach is being used, and Trial new growing approaches.

• Organize their day and their crews day in order to achieve maximum work output.

Required education, experience and skills:

• Degree in Crop Science or related field

• 5+ years experience in a similar role with hands on greenhouse growing experience.

• Bilingual English/Spanish

• Knowledge of plant physiology

• Proven achievements with Consistent crop quality.

• Proven achievements with Low production costs.

• Ability to coach and develop staff.

• Knowledgeable in preventative plant disease/pest treatments.

• Chemical knowledge/Licensed chemical applicator.

• Soil knowledge.

• Pest and disease knowledge.

• Excellent coach and teacher.

• Must have excellent organization skills.

• Must communicate performance expectation, measure results and coach for improvement.
