Science (BPS) was

The Applied Genetics Associate will be a member of the
Applied Genetics team within the BASF Plant Science
organization. This team performs critical activities
necessary to advance BPS's plant breeding and biotechnology
projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effectively as
possible. The sales teams focus on promoting value chain
coordination and the nutritional value of our products in
the marketplace.
The Applied Genetics Associate will ,with high attention to
detail, quality, and autonomy; develop and lead execution of
agronomic operations necessary for successful completion of
year-round regulated nurseries and isolated crossing blocks
(icb) to support event screening efforts of maize, rice,
sunflower, and soy trait project teams.
In
cooperation with the Applied Genetics team, technical
consultants, and local teams, responsibilities will include:

Crop
scouting and reporting for weed, insect, and disease pests
-
Development and continuous improvement of crop specific
pesticide and fertility programs and application
-
Irrigation program development and execution
-
Plot
layout in compliance with regulatory isolation requirements
and seedbed tillage preparation
-
Crop
cultivation, crop destruct, final field tillage, field
volunteering, and monitoring assistance
-
Crop
scouting for wild-life pests and development/maintenance of
crop protection equipment
-
Farm
equipment and land maintenance program development
-
Field
input supply inventory oversight and procurement
-
Support
of plot planting, sampling, pollinating, harvest,
fumigation, and shipping operations
-
Supervision of part-time employees as needed and
participation on local safety and organizational teams
Qualifications
Required:
-
M.S.
Degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Crop Science, Genetics,
Crop Protection, Biological Sciences, or equivalent -OR-
B.S. Degree in subject area above +3 years experience -OR-
A.A. Degree in subject area above +7 years experience

Ability
and willingness to work in a multi-cultural, continuous seed
production operation

Ability
to obtain and maintain a state pesticide applicator license
-
Demonstrated expertise with MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint,
Internet Explorer, and Lotus Notes (or MS Outlook) in a
network environment
-
Willing
to relocate to Hawaii. BASF recognizes Institutions of
Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
Desired:
-
Experience supervising and executing agronomy programs to
grow research seed production plots of maize and/or rice
and/or soy and/or sunflower on the US Mainland, Hawaii, or
Puerto Rico preferred

Demonstrated expertise operating and maintaining precision
research farming and irrigation equipment
-
Ability
to obtain and maintain a state commercial driver's license.
