Bacterial
Fruit Blotch Program Leader
STA Laboratories is a technology-based, diagnostic services,
laboratory for agriculture, focusing on the inputs (seed and
genetically propagated material). We are the only independent
agricultural product testing lab that offers seed quality,
genomics, plant health services, and diagnostic products to the
seed and plant industry. We help clients make objective product
decisions that help manage risk, ensure quality, and improve
genetics. This ultimately results in increased profits for our
clients.

Job Description
The Seed
Health department at STA Laboratories, Inc., in Longmont,
Colorado, is seeking a full-time employee to lead and
coordinate our Bacterial Fruit Blotch testing program at
that location. This position requires direct involvement in
the daily testing activities for all client seed samples
that are received for bacterial fruit blotch testing and
ensure that all processing occurs in an accurate and timely
manner, while upholding our standards for superior customer
service and quality. The position requires the applicant to
manage the planning, planting, growth, evaluation,
verification and reporting of bacterial fruit blotch tests
in a year around greenhouse complex. This is a supervisory
position and interacts closely with other seed health
programs, Departments and Business units within STA
Laboratories. This position entails direct contact with
clients, members of industry and/or university groups.
Research will be conducted only in the context of developing
new and improved testing methods.
Job Requirements

Candidates should possess a MS degree in Plant Pathology
with extensive laboratory experience.

Greenhouse management skills are highly desireable.

Individuals with a BS Degree and extensive seed health
testing experience on vegetable seeds will also be
considered.

Experience with molecular techniques is beneficial as well
as experience with ELISA, pathogen culture and storage, and
plant diagnostics.

A good
background with fungal or viral plant pathogens is
advantageous.

The
successful candidate will have good supervisory abilities,
excellent customer service skills, self-motivation, and the
ability to work unsupervised and successfully within the
Seed Health Team.

A good
working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and
Outlook is essential.

The
position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week and the
ability to lift 30 pounds.
