POSITION:
Research
Scientist
Seminis Vegetable Seeds, a division of
Monsanto, is seeking a
Research Scientist to work in the Woodland, California
Quality Assurance Seed Health lab. There are four Quality
Assurance Seed Health labs worldwide and they perform more than
240,000 tests per year on the 25 key crops produced by Seminis.
This individual will lead research to improve or develop seed
health assays.
The responsibilities of this
position include:

Lead
research activities related to seed health which includes
the improvement, development, or automation of seed health
assays for the detection of seed-borne pathogens.

Ensure
all research is conducted, analyzed, and concluded using
sound scientific principles.

Ensure
all research activities are conducted with the goal of
practical implementation in Seed Health labs worldwide.

Support
the transfer of new assays or processes to Seed Health labs.
-
Implement
process control and audits to ensure effective
implementation of new assays.
-
Work in
an efficient manner to execute research in a timely fashion
and meet project deadlines.

Review
pertinent scientific literature
-
Support
Technology Development program through complaint assistance.

Support
Seed Sanitation program through joint research projects.
-
Interact
with Monsanto Genetic Purity Lab to ensure Seminis is using
current technologies and automotive capabilities in our
routine testing.

Cooperate
with outside University-affiliated researchers on joint seed
health or seed borne pathogen projects.
Requirements
-
The
successful candidates will possess a Ph.D in Plant Pathology
with 1+ years experience or MS in Plant Pathology with 5+
years experience.

Requires
experience in the development of molecular assays for
pathogen detection using both traditional and real-time PCR
capacities.

Excellent
communication skills including the capability to clearly
present information in written or oral formats are
essential.

Requires
the ability to work with a multi-cultural team and work in a
fast-paced environment.

PC
proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) is a must and experience with SAP is a plus.
-
Experience in molecular phytobacteriology is preferred.
