Description
The Corn
Breeder will be a member of the Seed Activities team within
the BASF Plant Science organization. This team performs
critical activities necessary to advance BPS's plant
biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and
effectively as possible. These research and development
projects focus on enhancing crop performance, productivity,
nutritional value, and overall plant health.
The Corn Breeder will initiate and manage a corn silage
breeding and testing program in Sycamore, Illinois.
The position involves developing inbred lines and corn
silage hybrids adapted to the 95-115 day relative maturities
for the dairy silage market. The job will include managing
summer and winter nurseries and the hybrid evaluation
(testing) program. The corn breeder will supervise multiple
research station employees.
The position will interact with other corn breeding programs
both within and outside of BASF, as well as interact and
support staff in both the BASF Agronomy and Sales groups.
Qualifications required
Required
-
PhD
with 3 years experience or MS degree with 5 years
experience in plant breeding and genetics to include
managing fulltime and seasonal support staff

Demonstrated knowledge of Germplasm and heterotic
patterns adapted to the US cornbelt
Preferred
