POSITION:  Seeds Contract Manufacturing Coordinator (female/male)

Dow AgroSciences is building a seed business in Europe which will produce and sell Corn, Sunflower and Oilseed Rape seed. Production of seeds in Europe is controlled by the national seed certification process in each country. Production of seeds will be contracted out to various seed companies / registered seed producers.

Dow AgroSciences is looking for a Seeds Contract Manufacturing Coordintor (female/male), based in the North of Germany near Münster.

The Oil seeds production specialist would be responsible for leading and managing the production of OSR and Sunflower seeds within Europe. The initial primary focus would be OSR. The role would ensure effective processes are designed and implemented to maintain high quality seed production cost effectively in line with other key processes for example the Variety Development Process (VDP) . The incumbent would be expected to have the experience, knowledge and leadership qualities to lead seed production in Europe.

Key Responsibilities include :

1) Production Planning
Collect and update 3 year sales forecasts ( net demand ) of varieties and hybrids ( Licensed and Joint ) for Oilseed rape (spring and Winter’s), and subsequently sunflowers and produce a production plan to meet this demand, with adequate safety stocks, but seeking to minimise D&O (Dead and Obsolete).

2) Production management
To audit, select and manage seed production with selected seed producers, in Northern and Southern RCU’s (possible Eufrasia for SF). The incumbent will negotiate with seed producers, and initiate and agree contracts with them, and audit quality.

Key Contract Production Activities

  • Collect long term forecast for seed production from crop planning, and establish potential candidate seed producers to meet this need.

  • Select seed production partners based on ability to produce seeds to DAS needs.

  • Negotiate commercial contracts (in cooperation with Dow purchase and legal) with selected seed producers to minimize DAS cost of goods.

  • Collect production protocols from DAS production research for all varieties, and communicate these to seed producers.

  • Brief the seed producer on DAS expectations ( if any ) of production research to be carried out by the contractor.

  • Liaise with Global regarding winter production (for SF, spring OSR) as necessary.

  • Establish and lead seed production of winter OSR in Europe.

  • Liaise with R&D on the advancement (VDP process) of new varieties in order to plan multiplication and production of breeder / basic seed.

  • Work with Quality/Compliance Leader + contract producer on quality parameter for seed production (basic, certified, GMO tests, oil profile, germination etc).

  • Work with Quality/Compliance Leader to audit quality performance of selected contractors for quality according to DAS / national standards, including field preparations, seed cleaning, processing, treating and bagging.

  • Work within relevant DAS processes to ensure GMID production for all seeds.

  • Produce forecast and accurate costings for each crop based on expected yields, production protocols, contractor fees etc, including bag and seed treatment costs.

  • Identify seed treatment requirements for each production, meeting customer and registration requirements.

  • Calculate and update production, safety stock strategies for each crop, in order to meet customer service levels.

Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of seed production in EU, and the national regulations which govern it.

  • Good knowledge of seed production of OSR.

  • Good attention to detail, use of spreadsheets and knowledge of DAS systems, including SAP

  • Strong agronomic knowledge and experience

  • Ability to work in diverse teams

  • Excellent communicator

  • English and German or French language
