POSITION:
Managing
Director
Due to our present managing
director moving on to a new position, we are looking for a new
Managing Director
for our production nursery/breeding station in Tanzania.
Wide-ranging responsibilities
The
managing director is responsible for the production nursery
(Q-Sem, 150 employees) and the recently started breeding and
research station (Rijk Zwaan Afrisem, with a future
workforce of approx. 50).
The production nursery consists of polyhouses, covering an
area of 3.7 ha and producing seed of cucumber, tomato,
pepper, aubergine and melon crops. Apart from these there
are offices, a canteen and all other technical necessities.
Rijk Zwaan Afrisem, situated 30 minutes from Q-Sem, is still
in the starting-up phase and extends to an area of 20 ha.
Here, breeding programmes for the African market will be
started and support will be given to the breeding programmes
of Rijk Zwaan Breeding.
Together with the management teams of both nurseries, the
managing director will be responsible for day-to-day matters
such as personnel, accounting, production and keeping in
contact with head office in The Netherlands.
The
managing director reports to the board of directors in De
Lier, The Netherlands. He also keeps in close contact with
various colleagues within Rijk Zwaan who are responsible for
production and breeding.
Practical and people-oriented
We are
looking for an enthusiastic person who sees living and
working in Tanzania for a number of years as a challenge.
The production nursery is located in Arusha, a medium-sized
town in the north of Tanzania. There are adequate and good
facilities for expatriates in the immediate vicinity.
You have gained a BSc or MSc degree in the area of
agricultural business administration.
You have several years’ experience in horticulture and you
have experience in managing a nursery and personnel.
You have a people-orientated management style. You have a
practical nature, you are immune to stress, able to work in
a structured manner and in accordance with fixed protocols,
and you are good at solving problems.
You are the kind of person who has an interest in breeding
and seed crops and you enjoy collaborating with various
specialists.
The English language does not present you with any problems.
