Seminis Vegetable Seeds, a division of Monsanto and an Ag industry leader, is creating scientific breakthroughs around the world & has an opening for a motivated APPLICATION TECHNOLOGY SCIENTIST at our Oxnard, California offices.

The Research Scientist will develop a comprehensive research program focused on improving the existing seed pelleting and coating protocols. The candidate will oversee Seminis seed application technology as it relates to seed treatment technology and will interact and coordinate projects in cooperation with seed technology scientists WW. In addition, this candidate will work with R&D, Operations and QA teams to develop more effective procedures to apply actives (Insecticdes, fungicides, biological, sanitizers, plant growth activators) in the coating formulations on the seed. The candidate will also conduct basic and applied research on vegetables seeds in the area of materials application technology for seed applied actives; develop and evaluate performance materials to be used for seed pelleting, coating, filmcoat, and other specialty processes; demonstrate formulation feasibility, existing and new product application development and assessment of technology used in a variety of coating applications; assist with any scale-up of new products/processes from lab to commercialization; & participate in multi-functional project teams which provide written monthly reports and regularly communicate project status and timelines to management team.

The successful candidate will possess an M.S degree with 3+ years commercial experience in application technology or related field. Ph D. in Chemistry, Polymer/Materials Science and a broad knowledge based on the chemistry of coating materials and its application on biological systems are preferred. Must understand the use of statistical analysis in problem solving and decision making and knowledge of or interest in process improvement tools like Six Sigma and LEAN for improvement of existing processes and reducing waste are desired.

Travel likely with in the US (10%- California, Baja) and International Europe, Asia, and South America (5%).
