BROAD FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION

Develop and maintain a base of quality growers in the Columbia Basin, so Del Monte Seed Operations may contract sufficient acreage of high quality vegetable seed crops to produce 50% or more of seed requirement. Write contracts; provide technical assistance to growers through out the production season while supervising quality control protocols for Del Monte Seed Operation’s standards. Maintain contact and good business relationship with growers, to enable Del Monte to remain competitive in the seed industry.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Contract seed production requirements with growers, provide technical advice for planting, growing and harvesting of vegetable seed crops.

• Maintain seed quality during all phases of production. Supervise roguing and equipment maintenance and cleaning. 

• Provide timely and accurate crop status reports to assure management is informed of crop production with local agricultural companies to receive and distribute seed production. 

• Supervise the production of stock seed and inbred seed production required by Del Monte Seed Operations for future generation of quality seed crops.

• Maintain accurate and complete grower pesticide records to ensure spray record maintenance meets or exceeds Corporate, State and Federal guidelines and regulations.

• Maintain effective labor relations with co-workers in accordance with equal employment and contractual obligations, Corporate, State and Federal guidelines and regulations. 

• Actively support corporate safety and proprietary programs, and provide support in other operational and/or administrative capacities.

QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field and minimum 5 years’ experience

• Experience with Horticultural practices related to vegetable/row crop production

• Mechanical expertise and knowledge of farm equipment

• Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office software and using PC based applications for data gathering, reporting, and communication purposes. 

• Valid driver’s license – will spend time traveling to farm/field locations
